The Liturgy Committee is a standing committee of the Pastoral Council. Its purpose is to provide an increasingly open, prayerful, affirming and enlivening style of worship. The Committee plans special liturgies throughout the year and is deeply involved in the worship each Sunday and Holy Days. The members of the committee total 15. Nine (9) meetings are scheduled each year from September through May and are usually held on the first Monday evening of each month. Agendas are issued for each meeting by the committee Chair and each meeting lasts approximately one hour.

The Liturgy Committee of St. Marks is also responsible for recruiting, training and scheduling of all Liturgical Ministers. Listed below are eight (8) disciplines that fall under this category and a brief description of the duties and responsibilities of each discipline.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS of HOLY COMMUNION |

The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMC's) assists with the distribution of Communion at Mass. When prepared and assigned, the EMC's take Holy Communion to the sick at home and in the hospital. |

LECTORS |
|
The Lector is the official minister of the Church. The Lector's function is to proclaim God's Word during the Liturgy. |

|
USHERS/GREETERS |
| The function of the Ushers/Greeters is to welcome people to the service and facilitate the flow of people during communion and at other times during services. They are also responsible for the collection of the offertory and the distribution of bulletins and other handouts. In an emergency during the service, they are responsible for contacting the appropriate authorities and, if needed, overseeing the order evacuation of the church |

ALTAR SERVERS |
|
The Altar Server assists at the celebration of Eucharist on Sundays, Holy Days and Weddings. Boys and Girls in the 5th grade or older are eligible to be trained at Servers. |

SACRISTANS |
|
The Sacristans do the background tasks that support the Saturday-Sunday Liturgies (set out sacred vessels, prepare the offering and offertory procession, assist/direct altar servers in their tasks…). |

SANCTUARY SOCIETY- ENVIRONMENT |
Members prepare the Sanctuary for Sunday worship, setting out vessels and linens; care for the vestments, altar cloths and sacred vessels; create banners and hangings for a variety of liturgical seasons and special celebrations. |

MUSIC MINISTERS |
|
ORGANIST – In partnership with cantor or choir, provides principle musical support for sung prayer and instrumental selections for quiet reflection.
CANTOR – With the Organist, serves as a leader for weekend and holy day liturgies, penance and Lenten services.
CHOIR – Not only leads the congregation in song, but also sings to enhance the liturgy with musical selections ranging from Gregorian Chant to the contemporary.
CONTEMPORARY MUSIC GROUP – A musical ensemble providing liturgical music in the contemporary setting and the style of performance. CHILDREN'S CHOIR – Presents music in traditional and contemporary settings with and for the congregation. It also provides the young people of St. Mark (through grade 6) with the opportunity to become more familiar with the liturgy and to assume, in time, a leadership role in the music ministry. |

The Vocation Ministry seeks to promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life. Through activities and prayer, the entire community is encouraged, as the Body of Christ, to promote vocations. |
